Welcome to the Flu (for lifetimedreamer)

It started with a little sore throat. She had of course, ignored it and gone about her usual routine. However, by that evening the sore throat had turned into a splitting headache. She had gone to bed early that night. Ridiculously early, but she’d been exhausted. For probably the first time in her life fell asleep the second her head hit the pillow. She hadn’t even heard Peter come home from work, which was unusual because normally Amara was a very light sleeper.

The next morning she looked completely miserable as she forced herself out of bed when the alarm clock went off. Everything hurt. Her head hurt, her muscles ached, even her hair hurt. All she wanted to do was crawl back into bed and pull the covers over her head and pretend this morning had never happened, but she wouldn’t do that. She didn’t want to complain. After all, she was a guest and the least she could do was make breakfast like she always did. However, by the time she got to the kitchen the whole room seemed to be spinning. All she could do was sink to the floor and wait for the feeling to pass. This had to be the worst feeling in the world.... was she dying? What was going on here?

Peter was getting ready for work, and he came out of the bedroom after taking a shower and getting dressed in his scrubs, but he frowned a little when he didn't see her. "Mara?" he asked, and headed into the kitchen.

He crouched down next to her on the floor, looking concerned, and he reached out to feel her forehead. "Hey.. are you okay?"

Amara let him feel her forehead. and she forced her eyes open to look at him. She was burning up. There was no point in lying because she was quite sure she looked as bad as she felt.

"The room was moving." She said, sounding just a little angry with the room for betraying her so. "And I don't feel so... great." She admitted before she began coughing, as if on cue.

He pulled back a little instinctively when she coughed and sighed softly. "Well, you have the flu. I've got some Tylenol, that will help with the fever, and I can get some cough syrup from the store.. I don't think I have any, I don't normally get the flu, they make us get the flu shot."

"Isn't there a hypospray for this or something?" Amara had a hard enough time in Earth history without ever bothering giving much thought to medical history. Surely people didn't just... ride out the flu... that sounded awful. There had to be a way to get rid of this nasty sick feeling.

He gave her a sympathetic smile. At least they had had enough time to talk that he knew what a hypospray was. "Not really. There's a flu shot that prevents it, sort of. But once you get it.. not much you can do." He kissed her forehead. "I'll call in and send a replacement to take my place, then I'll go to the store and get you some stuff."

She shook her head a little. "You don't need to do that... I'll just... curl up on the couch and suffer through." She had never had anyone take care of her before and didn't expect him to start now, though he was honestly one of the most caring people she'd ever met.
