For dr_boyce
It had started as a simple headache. Well, it was more like a blinding headache where the slightest light had made her cringe but she had decided to ignore that. She didn't have time to be sick. She had gone on with life, focused on reaching her goals and making her deadlines, and somehow completely missed the fever, and the dizzy, oddly disconnected feeling when she stood.
The last thing she remembered was the concerned look on someone's face. They were asking her something but she didn't understand what they were saying, which was odd as she felt that she should. Nor did she recognize any of the people around here, even though she knew she knew them. She had tried to get out of there, feeling an overwhelming urge to flee, and that was when she blacked out, falling into a feverish sleep.

It was early that morning when she finally started to wake. Everything still hurt and she was thirsty. Probably more thirsty than she had ever been in her life. She looked around, hoping to find the glass of water she usually kept by her bed. Then she realized she was in sickbay, and she slowly started to remember getting sick. When she saw Doctor Boyce she didn't want to wake him and bother him for something as simple as water, so she chose to get up and get it for herself. However, when she sat up she found that her entire body still ached, and her head felt like it was going to explode.
"Ow...."

"I was just getting water.... I'm fine."

A straw materializes at her lips.

"And why are the lights in here ridiculously bright?" She squinted, trying to shield them from the source of the offense.

Regardless, he reaches back and thumbs a panel, reducing the lights to a much dimmer setting. Quarter lights should be enough for him to see by and low enough to not bother his patient.

She watched him for about five seconds before getting restless. "So... when can I go back to work?"
no subject
And she knows that's saying a lot.

"Give it a couple days."
no subject
She never did like laying around.

"Can I at least rest in my quarters instead of here?"
no subject
No. She'll have to stay in Sickbay.

She returned his smile a little before looking around for some clues as to what was going on.
"What happened?"

There isn't any humor present in his report. It scared the hell out of him.

"I didn't understand anything anyone was saying...It was strange."
She sighed, knowing that meant she'd probably be here a while. "How long was I out?"
no subject
Short stretches of incoherent semi-consciousness doen't count.

Her first concern was always her work. Health be damned.

There are other people who can pick up her duties. She's the only one who can focus on resting.
no subject
Yes, she considered being sick slacking off. She'd power through a broken leg if allowed to.

She's been awake five minutes and she's already restless.

Again, there's little humor in his voice.
