Shore Leave (For hesdead_jim)

Amara could not have been more comfortable. Real sun. Beach. This was the life. She could very easily just lay here forever, baking int he blazing sun. She didn't even mind that the white sand had burned her feet as she made her way to the perfect spot on the beach. The untouched natural dunes behind them and gentle waves before them provided a perfect surroundings for this day, and the clear blue water was calling her, tempting her to cool off among those crashing waves. However, Amara seemed to have lost all will to move as she laid on her beach chair, listening lazily to the waves.Time seemed to stop here. It was truly the perfect spot for shore leave, and she was loving every minute of it.

"I think I'm beachnotized." She admitted, not even bothering to look away from the water. She knew "beachnotized" wasn't a real condition yet, but it certainly was now.

"Nope," he laughed. Upon he encouragement, he kissed her other shoulder and smiled. "It does, huh?"

"It does. Really." She grinned, loving this. "I don't think I've ever been this relaxed in my life."

"Good... that's the whole idea," he began to massage her lower back, now intending on massaging all of her. He'd work down to her legs and then back up.

"Mm..." She closed her eyes and gave a happy little sigh. "You know if this was part of the annual physical no one would complain about coming in to get one."

"True, but would you like me to be dolin' this out willynilly to everyone else?" he asked, hands sliding down over her lower back and hips.

"No, I suppose not." She openned her eyes again to look out across the water. "Does that mean I get to keep this talent of yours all to myself?"

"It sure does. Aren't you th' lucky one?" of course, his words had a hint of sarcasm and amusement to them.

"Seems I am for once." She glanced back at him to give him a smile then went back to watching the water. "Do you swim, Doctor?"

"Th' question there is more like, 'will you swim with me', right?" he asked with a small smile. "I'd swim for you."

"You don't have to if you don't want to. It's your leave too." She was planning on getting in the water herself later, but she didn't want him to do anything he didn't like.

"I don't mind it," he shrugged his shoulders. "Not somethin' I choose to do but if I've got you there, I'm sure I'll enjoy it."

She watched the water, trying to get an idea on how rough it was. She really didn't want to lose her bikini top or something to an extremely rough crashing wave. However, it seemed relatively calm, and she imagined the water would be warm.

"Well, I'm going to cool off." She said, getting up and brushing off the sand. "You are of course, welcome to join me. If not, just watch and make sure I don't drown or something."

He cocked up an eyebrow as he watched her get up and shifted to rest back on his elbows. "I'll watch a lil' bit. Tell me how warm it is before I join."

The warm looking water was surprisingly deceptive. Amara gave a little shriek when a freezing cold wave hit her legs. "It's freezing!" She shouted back at him.

Nevertheless she forced herself to keep going, convinced she'd get used to the cold water... or at least she'd go numb and not care anymore.

He laughed when she shouted that, raising an eyebrow as he called back to her. "Then get on back out!"

"No! I'll get used to it!" She shouted back, forcing her head under the water. That only made her teeth chatter. How could the air be so hot and the water so cold? "Or freeze my legs off! One or the other!"

"Good job you got a Doctor to fix 'em back on," he called back. He briefly considered joining her, but if it was so cold, he really didn't want to introduce certain parts of his anatomy to the water!

She was trying to get used to it but it just wasn't working. Her whole body was shaking and that could not be healthy. She decided to get out and started to walk towards the shore.

Unfortunately when she turned her back to the water she failed to see a huge wave come up behind her. It knocked her off her feet and under the surf, dragging her and scraping her along the sand. She struggled to find her footing, disoriented and coughing, trying to wipe the salt water from her eyes and stand before another wave hit her.

He saw her walking to get out but when she ended up going under the water, he knew that wasn't right. At all. So he jumped up and raced down, jumping into the water. And oh lord was that cold! He hissed loudly as he grasped on to her to take hold of her, to take her right out of that freezing water.

Man where is he when I get pulled under? I just get LAUGHED at!

She took his arm to steady herself and managed to get to her feet. Once she stopped coughing and sputtering she smiled at him a little. "So chivalry does still exist in the universe. Thanks."

She was still shivering, but she figured the sun would take care of that soon enough. She looked down to inspect her scratched up knees and elbows. "Damn... that water was deceptive."

He moved to scoop her up then, upon seeing her knees when she did too. He put a forearm under them to carry her back to the blanket. "Yer tellin' me... let me get you cleaned on up."

But that's ok... I laugh at people too... especially tourists...

She laughed a little and put her arms around his neck. "I can walk you know. They're just scratches, really." Ugly red bleeding scratches, but scratches. Sand was surprisingly rough on the skin.

"I know. But you walk an' you'll get sand in 'em," he replied. Settling her on the towel, he took hold of a bottle of water he had and dragged off his shirt, so he could use both to gently clean up her cuts.

Hey they block up our roads and cause wrecks all summer... they deserve it :-P

She raised an eyebrow. She had to admit he was pretty damn sexy right now, carrying her back to her towel and taking care of her, losing the shirt helped too. However, she didn't want him sacrificing a perfectly good shirt for her scratched up knees.

"While I appreciate the gesture, Leonard, you really don't have to give up your shirt." She nodded at her bag. "There's an extra towel in there. That'll work, won't it?"

"We need somethin' dry to clean up yer cut when I'm done usin' somethin' with the water. Th' towel'll be softer on yer skin," he explained. "Now this might hurt a lil' bit. Sting," he added, touching the cuts with his shirt and the water.
