Amara  watched the people hurrying to jump on their transports to various Earth destinations, doing her best to stay out of the way. She was  trying to decide which shuttle to get on herself, and really had no idea where to start. There wasn't really anything waiting for her down on the planet, and she didn't have anyone she particularly wanted to visit or even get in touch with, so she could pretty much go anywhere. Times like these, when everyone else was hurrying off to visit family or friends, made her feel like a lost and lonely orphan child, and were often downright depressing. She hated that feeling, and was determined not to be sad or depressed this year, so she had decided that instead of simply watching everyone leave, she was going to go somewhere too. However, she had no idea where she wanted to go.

She had considered asking Frank if she could go with him, but he was probably visiting family, and she didn't want to intrude. She figured if he wanted her there, he would ask, and she wasn't about to push her company on anyone. Then she thought about going to Mumbai, maybe see if any of her cousins were still there, but that would likely get her into trouble and cause her all sorts of problems (emotional, legal, or otherwise), so it was best to avoid them. She considered going somewhere seasonal, like with skiing or something, but she quickly shot that idea down when she remembered how much she hated snow. Maybe a beach somewhere.... but where? And then she would have to find a place to stay... this was quickly turning into way more trouble than it was worth.

"Maybe I should forget it." She mumbled to herself. Amara would probably be just as happy in her quarters as she would anywhere on Earth. She could catch up on her reading, do some of the reports she needed to finish, and actually feel like she was ahead for once.... but on the other hand, it would be nice to be off the ship for a little while. Real sunlight was something she missed the most. Maybe she should go wherever had the most sun.

With a sigh she considered the various cities the transports were heading too again. At this rate, she'd be standing here the entire time. That would certainly solve the problem of deciding where to go at least, but would probably be the most boring shore leave ever.

Amara’s eyes snapped open in the middle of the night. The usual feeling of panic and shock that accompanied a nightmare came over her, and for a split second she couldn’t remember where she was. It was always alarming, waking up in unfamiliar surroundings. She blinked her eyes a few times and took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves.

A loud snort beside her drew her attention, and she rolled over to look for the source. There was Lieutenant Commander Frank Giotto, one of Starfleet’s finest, fast asleep, drooling and snoring, loudly. Amara couldn’t help but smile a little. That was hardly an attractive look. He was also completely wrapped up in the covers, leaving her with just the edge of the blanket, and it was freezing in his quarters.

With a sigh she sat up. Even though a lot of the panic from the nightmare had left, she knew she wasn’t going to get back to sleep. She was cold and Frank’s snoring was loud enough to wake the dead. However, she didn’t want to leave. She had told him she’d stay this time, and while she was discovering his sleeping habits lacked something to be desired, it was nice not to wake up alone. Next time she would have to bring earplugs. For now, maybe he kept an extra blanket in the closet or something.

Careful not to wake him she got out of bed and went over to the closet to look. Unfortunately, it was hard to see in the dark and his quarters were unfamiliar. She tripped over something halfway there and ended up sprawled out on the floor. “Ow…” She muttered, sitting up on the floor and rubbing what would soon be a very bruised knee. This was not going well.

Getting called to Admiral Pike's office reminded Amara of getting called to the principal's office in high school. She seemed to think it meant she did something wrong, but for the life of her she couldn't figure out what that was. Maybe she somehow forgot to turn in an assignment? She ran through the list in her mind, no... everything was turned in as far as she knew. Maybe he found out about the power surge she caused? But that was ages ago, and she'd figured out what she did wrong already. No, as far as she knew she was on top of everything, which made her even more anxious. She hated feeling like she was in trouble when she didn't know what she did wrong.

By the time she arrived she had played through every possible reprimand she could possibly be in for in her mind, but none of them really seemed to make sense. She was actually doing pretty well for once, and managing to stay out of trouble. Well, she thought, guess I'll just be surprised.

She cleared her throat a little, "Good afternoon, sir." She greeted, resisting the urge to ask what she did. She'd find out soon enough.
